Been away from this for the past 20+ days. I always seem to give an excuse that always works when you want to make yourself feel better about coming back to do something you have neglected for weeks or months; “I’ve been busy”.

Is it that, or is it more of a time mis-management?

I, unfortunately, am guilty of the second one.

My apologies.

picture taken by myself during the G20 protest.

I am sorry.

For leaving this baby of mine away from my words typed by warm fingertips. For discontinuing a journey that i promised myself not to halt. For neglecting something so beautiful as expression.

I’ve been busy. Busy figuring out ways to gain income from various sources other than my current employment. Trying to figure out a business plan to officially call my IFreeCan T-shirt line as a legitimate business. Trying to figure out ways to multiply the artistic skills so they don’t disappear and die. Trying to figure out my 3-year plan in becoming a designer/producer/entrepreneur. Trying to figure out ways to ease stress other than attending the Gym. I totally dismissed this blog. Not sure if its because i chose not to renew the domain name or is it because i just got too caught up with other blogs? I don’t know..And i don’t care to find out the reason at this time.

But back to my job.  Although it is a pretty good job, i still do not believe in the 9-5 office job routine. It just does not click into my stubborn head. I would rather spend thousands of dollars in constructing a system that will automate my income by doing something i love, than sitting in an office on a daily basis doing something i prefer not doing. Hate is not the word. Dont-mind-doing is the word…or phrase.

Why the need for alternative sources of income? Why not?

Relying on only one source of income can put you in a level of dependency that is so great you may not notice it. Instead of depending 100% on your 9-5 job. Why not build a way to generate income from…writing a book? starting a service? creating a new product?

And my time here is up for now. Will be on later this week to finish this post. See what depending on a 9-5 can do? it can halt you from passionately writing a blog post (such as this). Well..i blame my time management. But i still refuse to depend on a 9-5.

Remember; we are only human.

Printed into a sticker? Maybe.

Sense of self and perfection.

Another post. Another story.

Do i have a story to tell?
Maybe that is not the question. Do i have anything to say? Maybe that is what I am getting at.

Christopher Wallace said “Hear me out, i got a story to tell“. He always had something to say. Something to mention. He had THINGS to talk about. Not to compare myself to Mr. Wallace, but lately I have become my own worst critic.

It seems that whatever i do, i always try to outdo myself every time.

Striving for perfection could be a bitch at time, especially when you see yourself as someone who is always trying to improve socially, morally, religiously, mentally and physiologically.

Lupe said “I don’t think i’m best, i just think i’m better than“. Thats a bit cocky right there.

But here is the drama: There is a limit to everything. But there is no limit when someone is trying to improve their selves within the aforementioned categories. Why wouldn’t be there a limit? because you will never be the wisest person. You will never be the most moral. You will never be the most physically fit. You will never be the most religious and definitely not the most mentally conscious person you will ever meet.

Such perfected traits only belong to the man above that is an infinitely perfect being; us finite creatures can never attain such perfection.

Don’t believe me? Try it!

It’s kind of like Bill Gates quitting his position because he feels he has earned enough money. You think that would have ever happened? I highly doubt it.

Only possible problem here is: Ego…(shout out to Kanye)

When you reach a certain level of comfort with yourself and your achievements, your sense of self (or Ego) expands like a blow fish. And once it expands, chances are that you will change as a person. You will become a new person. A new self with different goals, achievements, image and personality. And by all means that is great. But it would be unfair for you to change on your friends, family and your close ones. Controlling yourself to certain degree after you have accomplished what you have always wanted is always a good thing. This way you won’t mistreat anyone. I won’t go into how to control yourself because you are different than I. Know yourself and know your limits then set limitations.

So what can someone do if they never seem to stop striving for the best there is, the best morality, physical state, religious level and social status? I say keep going.

Keep going because there is nothing that should stop you. Nothing can control you other than yourself and NO one cares more about you than yourself. And even if you are not satisfied, keep going and going and going until you are unable to.

Achieve as much as you can because you only live once. And do not waste your time on non-sense because that takes away time from your whole life. They say “Every minute of sadness is a minute less of happiness” . Forget your old mishaps, they already happened. Forget those bad times you’ve encountered, they’re gone.

Do a new thing everyday. Visit places you never seen. Go out and better yourself. Your life is your business and never let outside forces change you negatively. And even if it did, make the best out of it and live life the way you want to.

With limitations, logic and basic morals you can achieve your goals within fair grounds in minimal or no harms.

The amazing V.S the Perfect.

Stuck in two situations;

I got amazing. I see amazing in its amazing abilities that convinces me that life is not about making up your own perfections. But it’s about taking what is surrounding us and make the best out of it, look into its own perfection instead of becoming infatuated within our own idea of perfection. If we keep doing that, we will never be satisfied.

Then i get Perfection.

Perfection in 98.96% of what i expected in terms of perfection. It came at the right shape, size, form, entity, content, theory…but i could not interact with it. i could not feel it. I could touch, but to interact with it; it took hard work. Why? Because i was too caught up with its perfection and the chances of me seeing such expectations that never wandered anywhere else other than my mind.

The ideas were slim to none, of course, for such perfection to come in one piece. So all the infatuation’s energy was drained onto HOW such perfection could come into existence.

As i dig deep with amazing,

i will stick with the amazing since its already perfectly amazing for me. i dont need my own perfection, i need to find perfection within individuals instead of criticize them and look for your own perfection.

You may have noticed the posting pattern.
it is not the most consistent.

i know.

And no matter how much i try, i end up posting more on Tumblr than here. Is it the simple posting techniques that is luring me to do such thing? Perhaps.
But my mind always tells me to stick to the complicated things first before i go into the simple ones…and i get lured into the simple things. Going for the complicated first, or the hardest first, in every situation trains your mind and body and sets it in a mode where complicatedness is no longer seen as “complicated”. Which means that it would either make you:

  1. Used to the complicatedness in things to the point where you will only see complicatedness in everything and every situation you face; which will make you realize you will only go towards complicatedness.
  2. or you will keep busy with complicatedness while having your mindset aware of the existence of simplicity. And, hopefully, will proceed with simplicity after the complicatedness is taken care of.

Even now i’m making this post complicated. But this is how i feel.
Can you blame me?

Getting used to complicatedness and then, all of the sudden, steering to simplicity will make you realize that you were dealing with complicatedness when you don’t have to…at all!
Kinda makes you feel good about yourself. Just knowing yourself that you are able to face the complicated and solve it. It is a nice feeling. But doesn’t complicatedness take time and energy? Of course it does.

Working for a bureaucracy and being someone that prefers complicatedness isn’t the best combination to have. Forget bureaucracies. Just being someone who prefers complicatedness over simplicity all the time, in an era like this current one, isn’t the best way to go.

Everything now is flashy flashy. Go get this. Go buy that. Must do this. Gotta wear that. Should eat this. Must see that.

To live in a socially constructed era where the orders are layered upon you to do certain things, represent a certain image of yourself, to think certain thoughts, and this and the other and just orders, ideas, options, standards and expectations are laid all in-front of you. It would become a problem if the complicated persona happens to clash with such society.

The society we live in one huge bureaucracy.
I swear.
And after all that we don’t even get to the top. We stay at the bottom of the pit. We come out of our mothers’ wombs. We go through stages in life to figure out our positions and role in the company. While we’re doing that, we take courses and go through some experience that will, within time, make us come up with our decision of the role that we want to take. We take on that role and we take other roles as we try to climb the ladder of this bloody company. The more important your role to the company is, the more you are compensated. To eat and get services and to stay alive, we must go to certain locations. Back and forth And since you are only a physical entity that has an eternal soul that floats around after the physical decomposes, the company will no longer be in need for your physical help; since it has ceased. And you’ll be replaced with another physical entity.

Pretty cynical. But it’s a theory.

But back on topic.
Choosing the complicated options first will not do much progress in a society like the one we live in.

But what if you cannot help it like myself?
Best option is to learn how to choose the simple first. Make it our first option. The option that will make the outcome the same as it would be if one chooses the complicated option.
But how can we tell? It should be obvious.

For example. I could’ve made this post shorter than this current length by sticking to the topic and make it easier for readers to comprehend the main issue. But being the complicated person that i am, and being this blog as my space to literally pour my thoughts and ideologies, i chose not to make it short. And my stubbornness does not make it any better either.  And when i say “better” i don’t mean it in a scale of good/bad, since such thing does not relate to this point here. (here i am again, being complicated and steering away from topic by explaining my wording of “better” as illustrated in an example given about being simpler and getting to the same point)

Complicated approaches as a lifestyle will lead to complicated thoughts and complicated outcomes with complicated ways.

Best thing to do, in my own personal opinion, is to play stupid and let your complicatedness be your background while simplicity is leading the way. Once simplicity has paved the way for your complicatedness persona to interfere comfortably with no clashing in the current goals set for yourself, then by all means be complicated all you want.

And you can let your imagination run when it comes to the last statement just written. I’m only here to give the Dao (way), not the how. It is up to you to figure that. But this does NOT, i repeat, NOT, mean that you should dumb down your mental and self-respect to achieve your desires. Maintain your self-respect and mentality while taking short-cuts. There we go. Short-cuts. That is the word I’ve been looking for. See how the complicated persona interferes?

Until the next post.

Underrated Emcees that YOU should listen to

Post made by brother Rezgeraco, Toronto based MC. Check out his Youtube

Now I hate making a stagnant list for something as dynamic as Hip Hop. But I feel this is a proper list to create instead of the tired “Top 5 emcees of all time”. There is way too much to consider in terms of scrunching the many acts in Hip Hop into a top 5, or 10 or 100 dead or alive…so I’m not gonna waste my writing power into doing that shit. This will be a continuing list, cause there’s A LOT of material to cover. I will concentrate on the ones I feel people NEED to listen to. I want to make sure history smiles on these individuals.

Masta Ace
One of the legendary members of the Juice Crew…if you don’t know the Juice Crew, then you are missing a PIVOTAL MOMENT in Hip Hop history. You cannot possibly call yourself a hip hop head WITHOUT KNOWING THE JUICE CREW. All caps aside, Masta Ace is definitely one of the most underrated emcees and should rightly start off this list. For one, he was rhyming since the 80s and is still going strong…how MANY can attest to that. He was “sitting on chrome” for a “long hot summer”, discussing “disposable arts” with “slaughtahouse inc.”, all ya should check up on those quoted text for real.

He was one of the emcees that inspired up and coming artists, like Eminem, to see how a real emcee spits. With incredible story-telling ability, a strong cadence, easy to understand flow, a dope usage of multies and a great adherence to Hip Hop principles, Ace is definitely an emcee’s emcee’s emcee. During these many years, he has not tarnished his integrity or loosened his lyrical skills. In fact, his skills have gotten better over the years. But despite his grizzled years of emceeing and upholding Hip Hop, countless people STILL do not know who Masta Ace is. He is mad consistent after all these years. If Hip Hop was mythology, Ace would be on the pantheons of emcees. “You only got one delivery/One dimensional rappers is dead as chivalry”, gotta throw this in too “Four score and um seven years in the lab and/I know rap like Mike Tyson knows booty grabbin'”

Ras Kass
A prodigious reader in his youth, it’s no wonder this dude has a motherfucking RAZORSHARP silver tongue. A combination of verbal viciousness and savage eloquence all wrapped in one person. His first album, Soul On Ice, is a Hip Hop staple. He is also one of the most knowledgeable heads in Hip Hop along with Chuck D and KRS-One. Just listen to his first album…LISTEN! If he didn’t get in to too much drama, the dude could have brought several dope albums on the table by now.

Ras has got a jagged, almost stabbing, kind of flow going on, which is one of his key traits. Coupled with witty punchlines, wordplay and rhyme schemes, the waterproof emcee is a force to be reckoned with. When you talk about complex lyricism and content, you NEED to mention Ras Kass. He spent 6 months researching history to write his famed 7-minute piece “Nature of the Threat”! HOW MANY artists nowadays put that kind of effort into their songs??? Yea, so and so has a 1000 songs, but motherfuckers nowadays are on that Seinfeld tip… Ras kass may not be in his prime, but he still comes fresher than the cannon fodder you hear in today’s industry. “If Hip Hop fags were the latest in fad, you’d find a lot of hardcore niggas in drag!”

Pharoahe Monch
Rhyme supreme. Possibly has one of the GREATEST breathe control of any emcee I’ve ever heard. Suffering from asthma at a young age, Pharoahe would take that curse and turn it to his advantage by becoming one of the most talented emcees in Hip Hop. His smooth malleable flow and intense multi-syllabic rhyming is what sets him apart from the rest. His delivery is flawless and his rhyme schemes are ingenious. His only work with Prince Poetry, was truly awe-inspiring, just check the track “Bring it On”.

He may not have many albums under his belt, but his presence on the mic is definitely a must-hear and see. Pharoahe is definitely on his own tip when constructing rhymes. This isn’t just make as many songs as you can, there’s an ART to it, and Pharoahe is the Johannes Vermeer of this rap shit. The use of internal rhymes and multies in his songs are fucking incredible. Not to mention his strategic use of punches and hooks is definitely a blessing in terms of being an overall rounded emcee. Pharoahe is actually coming out with a new album, hopefully by the end of this year called W.A.R., so look out for that. “I even be getting more graphic than a neo geo/thirty-two bit computer chip be slipped between my lips and then I’ll spit”

Just MAD NICE. Formerly an elementary school teacher, J’s been schooling heads on the mic for some time now. With an everyman flow, smooth delivery and well thought up rhyme schemes, J can definitely hold his own against the more complex emcees on the list here. What he lacks in complexity, he comes up with in overall mic presence. J can definitely move a crowd, and when he speaks, you just got to listen. He’s also a DJ and how many emcees can you say that he/she can rap while being on the turntables at the same time???

Conscience. Eloquence. Skills. J-Live is one righteous dude. When you hear him speak, you can’t help but learn something from him. He’s also a BIG Hip Hop head, a True school b-boy who reps the culture to the fullest. Almost suffering the same misfortune as Ras Kass, record label troubles have almost tarnished his career, but the teacher perseveres. With a clear voice, articulate flow and a mighty stage presence, J is MAD NICE. “My rhymes are buried too deep to measure by the sands of the hourglass, In otherwords built to last”

Definitely a dope poet. Dude is sincere and talented. His vivid street tales showcase his magnificent lyrical abilities and his rhyme structuring is phenomenal. There’s something about Queensbridge that breeds dope emcees. Along with Pharoahe (a Queens native), ‘Mega illustrates what a true lyricist is. Formerly a famed drug dealer, ‘Mega now supplies the streets with dope rhymes. One of the reasons why I like ‘Mega is that he doesn’t glorify his past like the many imposters and charlatans that saturate the market. When he rhymes, you can feel the sincerity and struggle in it.

And that’s a key thing. Sincerity is severely lacking when it comes to emcees, when most fabricate their past and get big money with it. ‘Mega’s got that classic vibe, reminiscent of Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE and PMD. Poignant narratives, great rhyme structures, a steady flow and solid mic presence, Cormega should not be slept on at all. “I’m an emotional chameleon, see how I adapt to pain? Before we enjoy the sun, we must first get past the rain. A lyricist, similar to Donny Hathaway, clearly superior to many, all I really lacked was fame…”

Up next: AZ, Canibus, Aceyalone, Royce da 5’9, Black Thought, Keith Murray, OC, Apathy, Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Sean Price, GZA, Louis Logic, Inspectah Deck, Percee P, Reks, etc.
